This program has ended

This innovative program aims to unlock the potential of women and young people in the textile and fashion value chains.

Why fashion is important

The program was informed by a previous study commissioned by Hivos East Africa in 2015 to analyze Kenya’s policy environment and the barriers faced by local fashion designers and small tailoring houses in accessing the domestic retail platform and international markets. The findings indicated that Kenya has a dynamic and integrated textile and clothing industry. Women and youth do most of the work in this sector, yet are the least likely to access capital and markets for their products.

Who fashionomics targets

The program seeks to transform the Kenyan textile and clothing industry by empowering the women and youth it employs, enhancing the sector’s competitiveness on the domestic, regional and international markets, and creating opportunities for women and youth with a focus on micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
